2001 Daewoo Cars
After Daewoo's early success in the late 60's and early 70's, the auto manufacturing side of Daewoo's many business ventures fell into financial trouble. After struggling through many years of decline, they went bankrupt, and were bought by General Motors. General Motors produced a select variety of cars under the Daewoo name from 1999 through 2002.
2001 Daewoo cars: In 2001 Daewoo again downsized production of the compact Lanos. Daewoo went from four models, two coupes and two sedans in 2000, to one sedan model, and two coupes. Daewoo produced two coupe models of the Lanos, and for the first time one was a sport version. The sedan model and non sport model coupe varied minimally from the 2000 versions, but the sport coupe had an edgier look with added ground effects, and a stylish front grill and bumper package. Mechanically, Daewoo slightly altered the engine used in the 1999 and 2000 model Lanos. The new engine is the same 1.6 liter inline four cylinders, with a few tweaks. The new engine increased horsepower and torque slightly, but a minor drop in fuel economy resulted as well. The 2001 Lanos had a fuel rating of 25 mpg city, and 34 mpg highway, down slightly from 26 city and 36 highway from the previous models. The Lanos kept the front wheel drive train as in previous models. The Lanos still came with a variety of options including automatic transmission, power windows and door locks, as well as air conditioning and anti-lock brakes.
The 2001 mid-sized Nubira sedan stayed comparably the same as the 2000 versions, once again coming in three styles - two sedans and one sedan station wagon. The 2001 version was altered minimally from 2000 to 2001. The Nubira kept the same 2.0 liter inline four cylinder engine with a front wheel drive train. As a result of the lack of changes the fuel economy stayed basically the same. The 2001 Nubira kept the 23 mpg city rating, and 28 mpg highway rating as in previous years. The 2001 Nubira came with many options, including anti-lock brakes, air conditioning, power windows and door locks, as well as an automatic transmission.

The upscale Leganza sedan went through some changes in 2001, but kept the three basic models from 2000. Although the 2001 edition used the same 2.2 liter inline four cylinder engines, and front wheel drive transmissions, some small modifications increased horsepower and torque slightly, to make up for the underpowered four cylinder in a large sedan. The results for the SX and CDX models were a substantial drop in fuel economy. The 2001 versions had a rating of 20 mpg city and 24 mpg highway, down from the 2000 versions that had 24 mpg city and 28 mpg highway. The SE model had no change in fuel economy, staying at 21 mpg city to 25 mpg highway, but did offer a base manual transmission. While the SX and CDX models stayed with the automatic transmission. The styling changed very little in relation to the mechanical changes. However all models still came with the standard options of anti-lock brakes, air conditioning, Power windows and door locks, as well as more luxury options like leather seats, a moon roof, and fog lights.
The average market value of these Daewoo's is as follows. 2001 Lanos $2,350 to $3,300. 2001 Nubira $2,800 to $3,700. 2001 Leganza $2,600 to $3,600. If you are looking for a quality used car on a budget, then these Daewoo models might be for you.
